“Weekly Photo Challenge: Fresh” [ly Lain Eggs]

Have you ever seen a honeybee egg? Look closely in the red-circled cell, and you will spot a tiny rice-grain-shaped egg. It was lain within the last 24 hours.

In nine days, this egg will grow to be a full-sized larva, and then the nurse bees will cap it. Twelve days later, it will emerge from the cell as a worker bee, and its first job will be cleaning out the cell from which it emerged.
